The backward district of Adilabad has a distinct ethos which requires a distinct approach in tackling people’s problems stemming from its debilitating poverty. And if the agency taking up the work with compassion is equally distinct as the police department, success is bound to be guaranteed.

For the second time within a month, Adilabad Superintendent of Police Tarun Joshi led a team of police officials, including Additional SP of Bellampalli Sunpreet Singh, and Utnoor DSP S. Malla Reddy, among others, on a cross-country trip for familiarising themselves with the life of poor Adivasis living in one of the most difficult areas in the district. T

he visit, which was undertaken on foot and motorbikes on March 29 through the interior Indervelli and Kadem mandals, seemed to have had an impact on him considering the messages which he subsequently circulated on the social media group of the police department.

“They (poor Adivasis) are in severe distress. I was really touched and felt very bad seeing their condition. Can't we do anything for them? Are we so insensitive? Are we so helpless?” read one of Mr. Joshi's compassionate messages to police officials.

But before that the SP had listed out priorities for officials, he wanted them to be on an aggressive drive through village and help people in getting pensions, and look into water, health and even power supply problems by taking it up with the respective departments.

On the health front, he informed the police personnel that patients identified by them could be admitted to corporate hospitals for treatment and orphans could be put in schools.

“Let us make sincere efforts to help people, particularly in remote and inaccessible areas,” he urged.

The police officers undertook the visit starting with Kannapur in Indervelli mandal and passing through Vaipet, Chikmanvagu, Bapuraoguda, Narayanpur, Thummaloddi, Tatiguda and Pembi.

The visit to Vaipet was a detour which had the team walk over 6-km on the request of villagers who had come to the medical camp at Kannapur.
