Justice R. Kantha Rao of the AP High Court on Wednesday restrained the police authorities from proceeding further against former Minister P. Shankar Rao till next week in the case registered against him alleging that he made defamatory statements against the Director General of Police.
The interim orders were passed in a petition filed by the former Minister seeking quashing of case registered against him. He said that the case was registered at the behest of someone who is not connected with the issue. The judge called for records and asked the police not to proceed further.
In a related development, it is learnt that the court permitted the closure of dowry harassment case against family members of Mr. Rao in view of the understanding reached between the parties.
NIT case
Justice Ramesh Ranganathan made it clear that the case pertaining to admissions going on in National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal will be heard finally on July 26 if the Supreme Court does not pass any orders interdicting the hearing here.
The judge had directed the senior officers from CBSE to be present in the case filed by students complaining that they are being deprived of seats in the name of normalisation etc.
CBSE to file plea
On Wednesday, the CBSE informed the court that they would file a petition in the Supreme Court for transfer of the case to that court. The judge adjourned the case after making the above observations.
