Prakasam police and private colleges chipped in with their contribution to transporting students appearing for EAMCET even as the APSRTC ran 180 services from different parts of Prakasam District to help students reach in time to the 13 examination centres here on Friday.
Police personnel plied 50 police vehicles to transport the students arriving at the Ongole railway station and the bus station to the various examination centres in the city where 15,600 students are writing the EAMCET.
''There were no untorward incidents'', said Ongole Deputy Superintendent of Police G. Srinivasa Rao who himself took the lead in giving lift to students in his vehicle.
Private colleges including QIS, PACE, SSN and RISE engineering colleges operated about 100 buses to help the students reach examination centres on time. ''We operated 10 buses to the two examination centres set up in the college as also in the examination centres at AKVK and CSR Sarma colleges and the Government polytechnic for the benefit of students'', said QIS College of Engineering and Technology Principal K. Veeraswamy.
Over 1,500 students from Markapur, Giddalur and Yerragondapalem constituencies reached Ongole on Thursday night itself and stayed overnight in the Police Training College and 11 different hostels not to miss the all important examination for entry into professional courses.
A maximum of 28 buses were operated to bring about 2,200 students from Chirala and its surroundings to Ongole followed by 25 buses from Kandukur to transport 2,000 students, APSRTC Regional Manager V. Nagasivudu said.
Anxious parents on their own also brought their wards to the examination centres by cars and motorcycles and waited outside the examination centres.
