Police defuse bomb in Anantapur

May 27, 2014 09:46 pm | Updated 09:46 pm IST - ANANTAPUR:

The Chilamathur police on Monday night defused a bomb in a relatively nondescript village, close to Hindupur town in Anantapur district.

According to the police, they received a call from Venkata Sivappa, a YSRC supporter, from Bandlapalli village informing them about a bomb connected to a timer that was found outside his house. The police rushed to the spot along with a bomb disposal squad, which arrived from Anantapur, and defused the bomb. Chilamathur Inspector told The Hindu that while the material used was indeed explosive, the bomb wouldn’t have exploded as the connections in the circuit weren’t right.

A case has been registered. The police said that the assumed target, Venkata Sivappa, did not have any criminal history nor was he involved in any faction feuds.
