A just-born baby boy was saved by an alert policeman when a dog tried to pull it away from the railway track at the Anantapur railway station on Saturday.
Speaking to The Hindu , Anand, a police constable with the APSP battalion at Anantapur was waiting to catch a train to his native village, when an old lady shouted out to him to look for a baby which dropped from the hole of a latrine in the Bangalore bound Hyderabad- Yeshwanthapura express.
"As I started looking for it, a dog approached the baby and tried to drag to away. I immediately jumped onto the tracks and ran towards it making the dog flee", said Anand. He added that the old woman tied up the baby’s severed umbilical cord and rushed to the government hospital immediately.
Meanwhile, the superintendent of the government general hospital at Anantapur, Dr. K.S.S. Venkateswara Rao told The Hindu that the baby is a just-born baby.
"The baby seems to be suffering from cyanosis; we expect it to recover in a day or two. Nevertheless, the condition of the baby, as of now, is critical and any further decision on the medical condition of the baby will have to wait for atleast 24 hours," Mr. Rao said.
The baby was being treated in the well-equipped paediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The parents of the baby remain unknown as no complaint or enquiry whatsoever has been made at any subsequent railway stations.
