The police on Saturday conducted searches in hotels and lodges here in the light of reports in a section of the media that a few terror suspects stayed in the city for a brief period two months ago.

The reports quoted Mohammad Ibrahim Yazdani, one of the terror suspects arrested by the NIA recently, as having told the investigators that two of his associates had stayed in a lodge in Anantapur for a few days.

Even as they say that there are yet to receive official information on the issue, the police here are reliably learnt to have decided to leave nothing to chance.

Speaking to The Hindu , inspector of III Town Police Station G. Madhav said that the searches were being conducted only to ensure compliance with all norms by owners of lodges and hotels and rule out the possibility of anti-social elements exploiting loopholes if any.
