Leaders of various political parties and farmers’ organisations at a round table held here on Monday asked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to take an all-party delegation to New Delhi to meet Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari during the forthcoming Parliament session to discuss the Polavaram issue.
The round table, presided over by YSRCP city convener and former MLA Rowthu Suryaprakasha Rao, proposed that if the Chief Minister failed to take the delegation, leaders of parties should go to Delhi along with BJP MPs and MLAs in the State.
Godavari districts farmers’ association leader Yerneni Nagendera Rao faulted the State government on the project. He urged the government to come out with a White Paper on it to clear the air.
Retired superintending engineer Sana Nageswara Rao said that there was no clarity on completion of the major irrigation project. “It will not be completed even by 2020.”
AP Bar Council member Muppalla Subbarao and CPI leader Nalla Ramarao asked the State government why it had taken the construction responsibility, when there was a clear mention in AP Bifurcation Act that Centre should bear the entire cost.
Former MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar expressed his dismay over the reluctance by the Chief Minister to release White Paper on the project. Former MLC Durgesh, BJP city convener Adabala Ramakrishna, Chamber of Commerce president Dondapati Satyambabu and others participated in the round table.
