A petition was filed in the High Court seeking a direction to the Centre to complete inquiry under Section 10(5) of the Citizenship Act, 1955 within two weeks against Dr. Ramesh Chennamaneni, TRS candidate from Vemulawada Assembly constituency of Karimnagar district.
The case was filed by A. Srinivas, former chairman of Sri Raja Rajeswara Swamy Devasthanam, Vemulawada.
He said that a committee was formed in 2012 headed by S.K. Tandon, retired judge, to inquire into the controversy pertaining to citizenship of Dr. Ramesh, but till date no report was prepared.
The election of Dr. Ramesh as MLA in 2010 was declared as illegal by the High Court . It was held that he was not a citizen of India on the date of election to Vemulawada Assembly Constituency.
Dr. Ramesh approached Supreme Court against the judgment, and the apex court stayed the order of the High Court, but made it clear that he shall not be entitled to vote in the Assembly.
Despite all this, Dr. Ramesh filed nomination in the current election, he complained.
