The Crime Investigation Department (CID) sleuths on Monday arrested seven brokers and four top-rankers in the Post Graduate Medical Entrance Test-14 scam.
Already, two brokers and seven students were held by the CID nine days ago after Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan directed it to probe the scam following complaints from student community that some persons with questionable academic background figured among top 100 rankers. Newly arrested brokers were Ch. Bhushan Reddy, Paulson, Kistappa, Chakravarthi, Vijay, Abhimanyu and Patrik. Ch. Rama Rao, Ch. Sai Praneeth, K. Ramana and P. Bharath Kumar, who secured ranks 14, 15, 26 and 7 respectively, too were arrested, CID Additional DGP T. Krishna Prasad said. Broker Bhushan Reddy of Proddutur in Kadapa, entered into medical college seat consultancy by starting Balaji Career Solutions at Lakdikapool here three years ago.
He developed contacts with V. Suresh of Bangalore, Anuj Singh of Mumbai and Dhanunjaya Kumar Chowhan of Bihar. These four were wanted in the present scam. They ganged up with K. Munishwar Reddy and D. Sainath, both of whom were arrested by CID first.
With the help of a person called Ameer Ahmed of Davanager of Karnataka, the brokers’ syndicate managed to secure the PGMET-14 question paper. Absconding broker Paulson of Davanager in Karnataka was among the key conspirators who got the test paper leaked.
Bharat Kumar, Ch. Sai Praneeth and K. Ramana got ranks 7, 15 and 16 respectively having bought the question paper through Paulson’s agents Kistappa and Chakravarthy.
K. Rama Rao and Sonia Arogya Prakshi, who got ranks 14 and 23 respectively, were tutored by broker Vijay of Bangalore after collecting huge sums from them.
Investigators had identified two persons, Abhimanyu and Patrik, aides of absconding brokers Anuj Singh and Ameer Ahmed, who had arranged facilities like picking up students and hideouts for tutoring them.
