The State government has so far given permission to as many as 44 IT companies to set up units in the State at an investment of Rs.5,000 crore, Minister for Information Technology Palle Raghunatha Reddy said here on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the High-Powered Committee on IT, he said the IT sector was set to get a boost with Visakhapatnam and Tirupati having been declared as ITIR regions.

An Incubation Centre in an area of one lakh sq. ft is already functioning in Visakhapatnam. In addition, two signature towers are coming up in another 20 lakh sq.ft. in the city.Mr. Reddy said Millennium Towers would be constructed in Vizag at an investment of Rs.190 crore in an area of three lakh sq.ft. He said the Michigan Institute of Technology had come forward to establish a Fab Lab in Visakhaptnam at an investment of Rs. 8 crore.

Claiming the government’s IT policy as the best, he said objective is to make AP the top State in IT sector. He said a Rs.2,000-crore electronics cluster would come up in Anantapur district.

Every village in the State will be provided with broadband connectivity, while fibre grid works in Vizianagaram, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam would be completed by July this year. He said the high-powered committee had approved the proposal to de-notify IT SEZ at Rushikonda Hill-2 in Visakhapatnam.
