Development is not about roads and buildings, they are only a necessity, true development happens when people own them up and ensure that these facilities are utilised properly and also maintained, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has said.

Speaking after unveiling the plaques for a number of schemes being taken up in and around the village, adopted by Anakapalle MP Muttamsetti Srinivas under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, here on Thursday, she said that the Government wanted each one to own up their village and participate in maintaining its cleanliness.

The programme is not about making one model village, but making every village in the country a model village and thereby make India the best country in the world, she said. Pointing out that it is the residents who are responsible for sullying the surroundings she urged the villagers to maintain clean and hygienic surroundings.

Explaining the importance of Swacch Bharat the Speaker said that it was important for the people to take the responsibility for maintaining a clean neighbourhood.

This important junction on the National Highway 16 which leads to Narsipatnam and thence to Agency area is big village with hardly any civic development to boast of. A small village tank is being beautified and a walking path developed around it and community halls are being developed in the village and five other villages nearby with funds from Anakapalle MP’s MPLADS funds.

HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Anakapalle MLA Peela Govind Satyanaraya, Yelamanchili MLA Panchakarla Ramesh Babu, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Lalam Bhavani, District Collector N Yuvaraj, and other officials and non officials were present.
