Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan on Friday categorically blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the prevalent crisis in Andhra Pradesh and emphasised the constitutional responsibility on him (the PM) in fulfilling all the promises made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

After visiting Dasari Bhavan, the headquarters of CPI, he said he met the Prime Minister at Gandhinagar and explained to him the piquant situation faced by A.P. and cautioned about the social unrest brewing in the State on the Special Category Status (SCS). “I advised him to take a special interest and he knows the gravity of the situation. But I don’t know what is preventing him from granting the status,” he said.

“People voted for NDA believing his words and it is his responsibility to honour the promises made in Parliament,” the JSP chief said.

He was not functioning as per the directives of any political party but was following people’s directive, he said.

To work with Left

“Left parties work for the poor, needy and weaker sections. I will work with the Left parties to achieve the elusive goal (SCS),” he said.

He said that he had cautioned Mr. Chandrababu Naidu about the indifferent attitude of the BJP several times.

Mr. Pawan Kalyan said that merely by blackmailing and threatening a handful of MPs, the Centre could not suppress the simmering discontent in Andhra Pradesh. “We will not buckle to any pressure. I did not seek any position or favour from the BJP and all I wanted was justice to people of Andhra Pradesh.”

CPI(M) secretary Madhu welcomed Mr. Pawan’s willingness to fight for the SCS along with Left parties.

“We will come out with an action plan to take the BJP head on. The decision will be taken after the public exams so as to avoid inconvenience to students,” he said.

Action plan

CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna said that the fight for SCS had reached the final stage and welcomed Mr. Pawan Kalyan’s willingness to work with the Left. “TDP withdrew from NDA owing to the pressure brought by Left parties and it is a victory of the people. Jana Sena will take part in the roundtable to chalk out a plan of action on March 19.”

Later, Mr. Pawan Kalyan met some journalists at the Press Club and hailed their agitation seeking SCS. “It is good news that the State government has decided to allot ₹100 crore for the welfare of scribes. But you should continue to fight till all our demands are met,” he advised media persons.
