March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - KANCHIKACHERLA (KRISHNA DT):

Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said the government was committed to completing Pattiseema project in a year and then taking up inter-basin transfer of water from the Godavari to Krishna for fulfilling the needs of Rayalaseema. Polavaram would be constructed in four years according to the commitment that was given earlier, he asserted.

Participating as the chief guest in the swearing-in ceremony of Nannapaneni Lakshminarayana as the Chairman of Agricultural Market Committee (AMC) and 19 others as members of the committee, here on Monday, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said the river water transfer would help in utilising 8,500 cubic meters per second which is emptied into the sea.

Mr. Rao said the local market yard had recently procured 13.50 lakh quintals of cotton and three lakh tons of paddy and necessary steps for increasing the procurement activity were taken.
