Guntur got a Regional Passport Seva Kendra, thus getting a long pending demand from the locals— especially that of students going abroad for higher education, fulfilled.

Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao on Thursday inaugurated the Passport Seva Kendra on the premises of Head Post Office in Chandramouli Nagar. The passport office caters to the entire district and has a capacity to handle 50 applications per day.

Dr. Rao said passport was an essential document like the Aadhaar card. He said that applicants could get a passport within a week after submitting proof of their identity.

“Gone are the days, when an overseas travel is a life time opportunity. People are now able to travel frequently for business purposes and a large number of people are travelling during vacations as well,” he said.

Minister for Social Welfare Nakka Ananda Babu said that people in the district need not go to Vijayawada for getting a passport. All they needed to do was to enter the website of Passport services and book the slot. Personal appearances are a must to enable the personnel to finger print and record Iris images, he said.

District Collector Kona Sasidhar said that the passport Seva Kendra in the district was part of centre’s policy of establishing passport seva kendras in all districts across the country.
