Passport seva camps likely in Nellore

Camps to be held regularly to meet the demands for issuing and renewals

November 09, 2014 11:47 pm | Updated 11:47 pm IST - NELLORE:

The Central Passport Organisation (CPO) will organise the passport seva camps in Nellore on a regular basis, in view of the emerging demand for the issuing or renewal of passports.

Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, in a letter sent in reply to a request made by MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy recently, has approved the move. The MP had sought setting up of a permanent Passport Seva Kendra in Nellore on the lines of the ones presently operating in Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

However, Ms. Sushma Swaraj informed the MP that the Ministry had a long-term plan for providing better services to passport seekers from the region. But, shortly, the CPO would organise passport seva camps in Nellore to meet the immediate requirement.

People, who were going to Tirupati for such services, now can avail the same in Nellore.

According to guidelines, people seeking passports have to register the applications online and fix an appointment in advance to attend the seva camps. Information about the camps will be available in the Passport Seva Kendra website.

Both fresh and renewal passports would be issued at the camps, but there would be no service pertaining to tatkal applications and police verification certificate.

On submission of the online application, people would get the application registration number (ARN), which has to be submitted at the seva camp. Officials said that the passport seva camps would operate like a temporary Passport Seva Kendra, which would be held in cities, towns and university campuses. Services will be rendered only to those who come from the notified areas.

Equipment

The seva camps would be equipped with all the necessary facilities such as internet connection, cameras, scanner, fingerprint capture equipment, data entry system and so on. The camps would be manned by a citizen service executive, verification officer and granting officer.
