Parties adopt wait-and-watch approach

Political parties of Andhra Pradesh preferred to adopt a cautious wait-and-watch approach over the Committee on Telangana announced by the Centre, till the terms of reference were made clear.

Reflecting a lukewarm, diffident response, C. Kodandaram, convenor of the Telangana Joint Action Committee that is spearheading the agitation for separate statehood, refused to react saying there was no point in doing so till the Centre revealed the modalities.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA, K.T. Rama Rao said the party had no faith in the committee. “Nothing will come out of it,” he said.

However, Congress leaders from all regions welcomed the move saying the Centre was proceeding in the right direction since its first statement on December 9.

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president D. Srinivas wanted all parties to cooperate with the panel so that work was completed at the earliest.

Telugu Desam leaders from Telangana and Andhra/Rayalaseema reacted differently.
