Her plea for assistance rejected

Noted Paralympic lawn tennis player Madhu Bagri has allegedly suffered non-cooperation and insult at the hands of a private airline at the Renigunta airport here on Monday.

Ms. Bagri arrived at Tirupati and was on return journey to Hyderabad, when the incident happened.

The tennis player’s request for assistance to cross the aisle of the flight, which could not allow her wheel chair up to her seat, was declined. Though she was offered a wheelchair to board the Hyderabad-bound flight, she could not use it properly. Her request for a seat change was also not entertained.

The airline crew were said to have asked her to “walk, crawl or do anything”, she said in a complaint filed with the airport police. Though she had requested for timely support as she had a connecting flight from Hyderabad to Ahmedabad, the staff seemed unhelpful.

Airport officials remained out of bounds to the media for clarification.
