Panel to scrutinise admissions in minority institutions

June 02, 2013 01:51 pm | Updated June 08, 2016 05:28 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The recently reconstituted Minorities Commission will ‘supervise and oversee’ the admissions in minority educational institutions to ensure that students belonging to the minority communities are allotted seats in the ratio laid down by law.

It will appoint a committee with three legal experts to study all government orders, past and present, concerning minorities welfare and hold a meeting with the managements of these institutions. These interactions will be used to frame guidelines to dole out justice to minorities.

Commission chairman Abid Rasool khan, vice-chairman Rev P. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, and members told reporters that a proposal would be made to the government to establish a permanent board on the lines of Wakf Board to protect the Christian properties bequeathed to the churches by the early missionaries and philanthropists.

Opinions would necessarily be obtained from the community before the constitution of a board for madrasas (Urdu schools) as one section had opposed it, describing it as ‘interference with autonomy’ while another section had welcomed it with conditions.

They said the commission would seek explanations from the departments concerned about the implementation of Prime Minister’s 15-point programme and ‘harassment of Muslims’ by the police.
