The Energy, Infrastructure and Investment Department of Andhra Pradesh has set up a State-level committee for monitoring and coordinating in matters pertaining to the Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAN) of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

It is in pursuance of the National Civil Aviation Policy-2016, wherein the Ministry has targeted to establish connectivity to the unserved and under-served airports in the country by creating infrastructure and providing certain concessions to airlines in order to make air travel affordable to the common people.

The State government’s committee will be headed by Principal Secretary (Energy and Infrastructure and Investment), who will be its chairperson. It has Principal Secretaries (Revenue and Home), Secretary (Finance), Director-General of Police (DGP), and airport directors concerned as members.

The CEO of Bhogapuram International Airport Company Limited (BIACL) will be the convener.

BIACL is a special purpose vehicle formed under the Companies Act, 2013, and 100 per cent owned by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It is a project proponent for the development of Greenfield airports at Bhogapuram (Vizianagaram district), Kuppam (Chittoor district), Orvakal (Kurnool district), and Dagadarthi (Nellore district).

The committee will have representatives of RCS airlines and oil companies concerned as special invitees. In addition to monitoring the implementation of schemes of regional connectivity, the committee is mandated to review compliance of the regulatory requirements of the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.
