Question hour row: TDP MLC Adireddy Apparao in a verbal exchange with YSRCP floor leader M. Sharmila Reddy during the corporation general body meeting on Monday.

Pandemonium prevailed during the Municipal Corporation of Rajamahendravaram (MCR) council meeting when YSR Congress Party member Mindi Nagendra was suspended and other party members staged a walkout in his support on Monday.

When the council met in the morning, question hour was taken up as per agenda. Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai announced that she would give a chance to all the members during question hour. She first gave opportunity to city MLA Akula Satyanarayana to speak when he said that he had to go to Amaravati to take part in the awareness meeting on GST bill for MLAs and MLCs.

Mr. Nagendra obstructed the MLA saying that question hour should be confined only to ward issues and he should not speak on other issues.

TDP floor leader Varre Srinivasa Rao and other members lashed out at Mr. Nagendra and there were heated arguments between the ruling and opposition members. Mr. Nagendra did not heed the MLA’s request to allow him to speak. The Mayor told the opposition member that she would give permission for discussion if he submitted a written requisition. But, the YSRCP member continued with his arguments and MLC Adireddi Appa Rao faulted him for obstructing the meeting.

The MLC told the Mayor not to conduct council meeting when the legislative Assembly and council meetings are going on. Then the Mayor suspended Mr. Nagendra.
