January 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - VIZIANAGARAM:

On the occasion of Vasanta Panchami also known as Siri Panchami, the birthday of Goddess Saraswati, devotees came in droves from the three North Andhra Coastal districts and border districts of Odisha to worship the Goddess and also perform Aksharabhyasam at the Gnana Saraswati Temple on the Ring Road here on Sunday.

The Sapta Medha Gana Sahita Goddess Saraswati (Goddess of Learning/Wisdom), Goddesses Lakshmi and Bhuvaneswari temple here is considered next to Gnana Saraswati Temple in Basara (Adilabad in Telangana), according to Public Relations Officer of Sarada Seva Sangham (the organisers) Bhogaraju Surya Lakshmi.

She told The Hindu that the temple was opened at 3.30 a.m. to perform the regular rituals — Archana — by temple chief priest Phaniharam Tatacharyulu.

Over 25,000 devotees from various places offered prayers at the temple since early hours and over 3,000 children were taught writing ‘Om’ symbol which is considered as Beeja Aksharam in the Aksharabhyasam function that began at 7 a.m. She said that the function would continue on Monday (Ratha Saptami). In coordination with the police, the organisers made arrangements for the function at Kshetra Vaasa Mandapam in the temple complex.
