The process of land acquisition for the proposed atomic power plant in Ranasthalam mandal is going to be a Herculean task, what with opposition parties accentuating their efforts to rally people against the project. The Centre’s decision to shift the plant from Gujarat to Andhra Pradesh has triggered widespread agitations in the district.

CPI(M) leader B. Krishna Murthy and CITU leader D. Govinda Rao have urged the people to understand the “ulterior motives” of the Prime Minister in trying to shift the atomic power plant from Mithivirdi in Gujarat to Kovvada in Srikakulam district.

YSRC district president Reddi Shanti said, “We will extend our support to the people of Kovvada, Kotapalem, and Tekkali till the atomic plant proposal is dropped.”
