CPI(M) seeks people’s support for State bandh on April 9
The CPI(M) district committee has welcomed the united stand taken by the opposition parties in the fight against the proposed increase in power tariff, and warned the government against imposing a huge burden on the people at a time when inflation has made lives miserable.
The party has called for mass hunger strike and protests across the district on April 1 to exert pressure on the government and support for the State bandh on April 9.
At a meeting in Guntur on Friday, party State leaders Paturu Ramaiah and V. Krishnaiah said that the government tried to suppress the agitation in Hyderabad but had to beat a hasty retreat as the TDP and the YSR Congress threw their weight behind the leaders of Left parties. The government can salvage the situation even at this late stage by securing gas and coal supplies by talking to the Central government, on which pressure should be built by the Chief Minister.
Power generation by the gas-based projects would ease the scarcity but no action was taken in that direction.
“The Reliance Industries is virtually minting money by doing sales outside the State at exorbitant prices as the Government of Andhra Pradesh failed in securing its share of gas produced in the K-G basin.” CPI(M) district secretary D. Rama Devi, party leaders S. Siva Reddy, Y. Netaji, P. Rama Rao, P. Narasimha Rao, G. Chalamaiah, J.V. Raghavulu, and others were present.
