Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation (RMC) council meeting on Thursday saw the ruling TDP and Opposition YSRC members criticising the Commissioner and officials for alleged corruption, negligence and irresponsibility.
The council met under the chairmanship of Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai. Independent Corporator Gorrela Suresh took serious objection to decision of the Revenue staff to deduct his one day salary towards Hudhud cyclone victims without any intimation.
Later, Opposition leader Medapati Sharmila Reddy brought to the notice of the Mayor the purchase of furniture for Mayor and Deputy Mayor without calling for tenders. She also raised the issue of spending Rs. 4.64 lakh on barricading municipal polling centres. “When other municipalities like Eluru, Vijayawada spent not more than Rs.1 lakh, we have spent more money,” she alleged.
When Sharmila raised the issue of shortfall in the revenue from hoardings, she received support from City MLA Dr. Akula Satyanarayana, TDP floor leader Varre Srinivasa Rao. and several others including her own party MLC Adireddy Apparao. Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary lashed out at the Commissioner and Superintendent Engineer for allegedly shielding a contractor.
