Formation of Telangana is possible only with Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the national parties are not in a position to give statehood to the region as they are depending on regional parties for survival at the Centre, TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has said.
Addressing the party delegates at its eleventh foundation day celebrations here on Friday Mr. Rao pointed out that all governments in the Centre in the recent past were formed with the support of regional parties as the national parties failed to secure even simple majority. “National parties are there only for namesake and their presence is confined to some regions”, the TRS chief remarked hinting at Congress and BJP.
“Some parties are trying to own up Telangana cause in the recent months and are talking as if they are about to get statehood to the region”, Mr. Rao said in an indirect reference to BJP.
Stating that the TRS fight for Telangana was relentless and had no intermissions except lying low for reasons like students' examinations Mr. Rao announced that the movement would be intensified from June after the completion of Parkal by-election.
The TRS would grow into a substantial political force having a say in national politics to achieve Telangana, he noted and ruled out the possibility of his party's merger with any party even after realising statehood.
Mr. Rao appealed to youth and students not to end lives for Telangana as such steps would demoralise those fighting for the cause.
On the suspension of eight Congress MPs in Lok Sabha, Mr. Rao said it hurt the self-esteem of four-crore Telangana people. “Come and join the movement instead of hanging around in a party that has repeatedly deceived Telangana since independence”, he suggested to the suspended MPs.
The meeting adopted several resolutions, including demanding the Centre to introduce Telangana Bill in Parliament, urging people to eschew Congress and TDP politically, withdrawal of cases on Telangana activists and students, and taking up Pranahita-Chevella as national project.
Earlier, the TRS chief admitted former Director General of Police P. Ramulu to the party and accommodated him in the polit bureau instantly. Former Ranga Reddy district president of TDP Laxman Rao also joined TRS on the occasion.
