One killed, 21 injured in road accident in Prakasam

One person was killed and 21 others injured when a van collided with a Vijayawada-bound APSRTC bus proceeding from Nellore on the Chennai-Kolkata national highway at Vallur within Tangutur police station limits in Prakasam District on Friday.

Singarayakonda Circle Inspector M. Bheema Naik said that the van driver Ashok, 32, from Haryana died on the spot.

The mishap occurred when the van driver did not notice the road diversion board put up in connection with upgradation of the highway into six-lane expressway, he said.

The injured were rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences here. The injured included six constables proceeding to the State captial Region (SCR) for providing security to Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu for Ugadi celebrations on Saturday, District Special Branch DSP Rayapatti Srinivas told The Hindu.
