One person was killed and 14 others were injured in a clash between and Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday after a petty dispute over fetching drinking water, the police said.

Objection raised by a TDP supporter against a woman fetching water from a tap in Samanthapuram village led to stopping of vehicle carrying milk by Congress supporters.

This triggered off arguments as well as stone pelting by members of both groups, until a police patrol rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

“There is long standing rivalry between both the parties in Samanthapuram village. A petty dispute over fetching of drinking water today led to a clash between supporters of both the parties, resulting in the death of a 50-year-old man named P. Ramanaiah and injuries to 14 others from both the parties,” a police officer told PTI .

Sarubujjili police booked a case of murder and rioting under relevant sections of the IPC. Some people have been taken into custody, while efforts are on to nab others responsible for the clash, he said.
