One dies as cars collide

One person died and ten others, including two children, suffered injuries in a road accident on Krishna River bund in Thotlavallur mandal in the district on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as P. Nageswara Rao (43), a native of MVP Colony, Visakhapatnam. He was an advocate. The body was shifted to the Government Hospital mortuary.

Mr. Rao’s wife, P. Komali and son P. Hemanth Kumar, his brother-in-law S.L.B. Ramakrishna, wife Sudha Rani and daughter Sankeertana and five others sustained injuries.

They were admitted to a private hospital in Vijayawada. Mr. Ramakrishna is an employee of The Hindu .

The mishap occurred when a speeding car proceeding to Vijayawada from Avanigadda collided head on with another car. The accident occurred when the two families were travelling to Sri Subramanyeswara Swamy’s devasthanam, located at Mopidevi.

Nageswara Rao’s family came to Ramakrishna’s house, located at JD Nagar, in Vijayawada, and they were on the way to the temple. One car caught fire and burnt immediately after the accident.

Two victims of Jharkhand were among the injured in another car which was proceeding to Vijayawada. Police are investigating the case.
