The Centre has granted permission for prosecution of suspended IAS officer Y. Srilakshi, an accused in the illegal mining case against Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
This information was conveyed to the Principal Special Court for CBI Cases here, which is hearing the case, by the CBI. Sources stated that after securing the President’s assent, the Union Ministry of Personnel and Training had issued orders granting permission for Srilakshmi’s prosecution on December 4.
Incidentally, Srilakshmi is the first of the several IAS officers accused in the three ongoing high-profile cases in the State to be permitted for prosecution under the provisions of the P.C. Act. An officer of Indian Railways Accounts Service, K.V. Brahmananda Reddy, has already been allowed to be prosecuted under the P.C. Act in the Jagan assets case.
B.P. Acharya, L.V. Subramanyam, M. Samuel, Manmohan Singh and G. Venkatarami Reddy are the other IAS officers named as accused in the Emaar Properties land deal scam and disproportionate assets case against Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and others. Meanwhile, the Income Tax Department on Thursday filed a petition seeking copies of charge-sheets and statements recorded in the Emaar Properties case. The court posted the matter to Friday.
