Old woman robbed, murdered

In a gruesome incident, some unidentified persons in broad day light on Saturday murdered a 65-year-old woman, Yasodamma, at her residence at Durga Nagar area in Piler town, and decamped with gold ornaments worth over Rs. 3 lakh.

The Piler police said that Yasodamma’s daughter and son-in-law work as government school teachers and both were away on invigilation duty for SSC examinations in Piler. Son-in-law Sivalingam who returned from duty around 1.45 p.m. noticed Yasodamma murdered, with her throat slit. The neighbours testified that she was seen moving in front of her house around 12.30 p.m. The police found that the perpetrators had taken away gold chain from the woman, besides decamping with few more gold ornaments from the almirah.

A forensic team and dog squad arrived at the spot, and further investigations are on.

The body was sent to area hospital for autopsy.
