Nearly 200 old offenders under various police stations in Nellore city were given counselling by the police at a rowdy mela organised in the presence of SP Vishal Gunni at the Umesh Chandra Hall at the police parade grounds here on Thursday.
The rowdy-sheeters were told that they would have to provide accurate and updated information about their present livelihood activity, family members and nature of job. Some of them were made to explain their present movement and whether they were constantly reporting at the police station concerned every week.
Mr. Vishal checked the updated files regarding the offenders to see whether their personal information such as Aadhaar cards, driving licence copies and present occupation details were properly listed. Saying the activities of all rowdy-sheeters and suspects were being closely monitored, Mr. Vishal said already one round of counselling had been given to them and there would be no question of showing any lenience if they were found indulging in trouble-mongering activities by forming groups anywhere in the city limits anymore. When a rowdy-sheeter said he was running a cold drinks shop, Mr. Vishal enquired whether he was allowing gangsters to indulge in nuisance activities near his shop.
The old offender was warned that serious action would be taken if he was caught involved in group activities causing nuisance to nearby residents.
The police officials present there were instructed to check continuously about the weekly movement of the sheeters and old offenders as a precautionary measure.
