It is rare to see temples on the premises of the government offices. But a temple of goddess Saraswati is being constructed in the vicinity of the Irrigation department’s office in Srikakulam thanks to an advice given by Vaastu pundits.

With their suggestion, the officials are constructing the temple on a war-footing to seek divine blessing to overcome the hurdles being faced in the construction of Vamsadhara phase-2 project. Idols of Goddess Saraswati and Lord Kumara Swamy were brought from Rajasthan recently. The temple is expected to be inaugurated very soon in accordance with Hindu tradition and customs.

Officials are busy making necessary changes like construction of internal road and shifting toilets and bathrooms with the suggestion of Vaastu experts. It is believed that poor Vaastu in the head office led to inordinate delay in construction of many projects. Vamsadhara Phase-2 was proposed 50 years ago but could not be completed due to legal tangle with the Odisha government.

The phase-2 project would irrigate over two lakh acres in Srikakulam district. Drought conditions will not hamper agricultural activity in the district once the project is completed. Officials are hopeful that they would get a favourable judgment from the Vamsadhara tribunal over the pending project.

“Valuable Vamsadhara water goes into sea because of the inordinate delay in construction of the project. We were also in depression with the delay. Recently, a few Vaastu pundits suggested us to construct a temple to seek divine blessing for the project. Then we contributed money for construction of the temple and internal road. It has given us lot of satisfaction,” said B. Rambabu, Superintending Engineer of Srikakulam Irrigation Circle.
