Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu by announcing that the maiden Cabinet meeting will be held in Visakhapatnam has sent out a clear message that all regions are important for his government.
The Telugu Desam Legislature Party meeting to elect its leader was held in Tirupati in Rayalaseema, the swearing in ceremony was held near Guntur, in the Andhra heartland, and the maiden Cabinet meeting is scheduled to be held here, in North Andhra.
The District Administration immediately swung into action to make preparations for the meeting which will be a historic one like the summer session of the then Andhra Legislative Assembly held at the TLN Sabha Hall of the Andhra University in June 1954.
District officials went around the city looking for a suitable venue for the Cabinet meeting and were working out details for the stay of the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues and security arrangements.
“I received a call on Monday morning from the Secretary of General Administration Department informing about the Cabinet meeting. We have been asked to look for the venue of the meeting and accommodation for the Chief Minister and 19 Ministers. However, we were not told the date," Collector S. Solomon Arokia Raj said on Monday.
Since the Cabinet meeting can be held only in a government building and the conference halls in Collectorate, VUDA office, Zilla Praja Parishad and Andhra University Platinum Jubilee Guest House, Senate Hall and Executive Council Hall are some of the options before the district administration. District Revenue Officer M. Venkateswara Rao has gone round some of the venues.
The district administration will submit the details of these venues to the government and the government will take the final call, Mr. Arokia Raj said. Details of the Cabinet meeting, its requirements, how many officials will attend and the agenda are expected to be known only late in the evening.
