Nandyala Suresh Kumar Reddy, Sub-Inspector of Obulavaripalle police station in Kadapa district, died under mysterious circumstances in his quarter adjoining the police station on Monday night.

Suresh Kumar Reddy assumed charge as Obulavaripalle SI in Railway Kodur police circle in December 2013 and married Leela on February 8 this year. The Sub-Inspector was on duty till Monday afternoon and left for his quarters. He was alone at the time of death as his wife and parents had gone to his native place, Nandyal in Kurnool district, for Sri Ramanavami festival.

As the SI did not come to the police station last evening, policemen rang up his mobile, but got no response. A constable went to his quarters and found him lying dead in a pool of blood with a bullet piercing his temple, and informed the higher-ups, police said.

Kadapa Superintendent of Police G.V.G. Ashok Kumar rushed to Obulavaripalle and inspected the SI’s body. He enquired with Rajampet DSP G.V. Ramana and Railway Kodur Circle Inspector Ramakanth about the death and consoled the parents of the deceased. Police asserted that the SI died due to misfire while cleaning his weapon.
