Applicants to the University of Hyderabad (UoH) courses have increased by 20 per cent this year with students from Telangana accounting for almost 25 per cent of the total 44,224 candidates. The entrance examinations will be held from February 8 to 14.

The University conducts the entrance tests very early compared to other universities in the country to ensure that they get the best talent and also gives an opportunity for students to appear for the tests that don’t clash with other major entrance exams in the country.

While other varsities prefer to conduct their tests after April when degree students complete their exam, the UoH decided to advance its tests to February when Syed E. Hasnain was the Vice Chancellor.

V. Krishna, Controller of Examinations said that 11,283 candidates are appearing in the Hyderabad Centre followed by 4,000 odd students from the New Delhi Centre. This year 44,224 students have applied for the entrance to be conduced in 37 centres across the country in 97 subjects including the integrated five-year courses. The centres are spread across the country including Jammu and Kashmir.

Prof. Krishna said that there is a 20 per cent increase in applications this year and this reflects growing interest in the varsity. Interestingly, this year the UoH was declared the Visitor’s ‘best university’ among all the Central Universities in the country by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, who is the Visitor to all the Central varsities.

Applicants from the newly created Telangana State account for nearly 25 per cent with 14,000 odd candidates hailing from there followed by the bifurcated Andhra Pradesh.

Prof. Krishna advised the candidates to be at the venue at least an hour before. In Hyderabad the University will operate buses from the Main Gate of the varsity to the South Campus for the convenience of the candidates. Hall Tickets can be downloaded from ‘http://acad.uohyd.ac.in/EE15.html’.
