Women artistes displayed nuances of Kuchipudi dance drama in their inaugural performance of the weeklong Siddhendra Yogi Natyotsav, which began here on Sunday. Kuchipudi exponent Vempati Chinna Satyam’s disciple Vempati Srimoy and her team presented dance drama ‘Sri Krishna Parijatam’, with their stellar expressions as demanded by the characters such as Sri Krishna, Rukmini and Narada. Ms. Srimoy put forth a vibrant portrayal of Satyabhama mesmerising audience.
The Akhila Bharata Kuchipudi Natya Kala Mandali of Kuchipudi in collaboration with the Kuchipudi Arts Academy of Chennai is conducting the annual dance festival.
Kuchipudi maestro Pasumarthy Krishna Murthy’s son P. Uday Bhaskar said that the State government was not hearing the voice of the artistes and Kuchipudi villagers to develop the dance village.
“The government’s ‘Kuchipudi Natyaramam’ model is focusing on commercialisation of the art form,” said Mr. Uday Bhaskar.
He demanded that the State government appoint a new committee to study the existing conditions of the village and address the concerns of the villagers before going ahead with the Natyaramam project.
