Thanks to the poor supply of coal from Singareni Collieries Company Limited due to incessant rains during the monsoon season and frequent breakdown of power generation due to faults at the broilers on various power plants, the 2600 MW National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in Ramagundam has failed to achieve its targeted power generation during the financial year of 2013-14 which ended on Monday.
NTPC Ramagundam, which won several awards from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in power generation, this time, has failed to achieve the targeted power generation due to various reasons. Against the target of generating 20,708 million units during the year 2013-14, it could generate 19,745 million units. Sources said that NTPC Ramagundam failed to achieve the target due to non-supply of coal from Singareni during the monsoons following the incessant rains and decline in coal production. Besides, the frequent tripping down of the power stations had also caused dent in the power generation of the NTPC.
Sources said the delay in taking up the renovation and modernisation of all six units of 3 X 200 MWs and 3 X 500 MWs at a cost of Rs. 763 crore which was proposed in 2011 was also hampering the power generation at the power station. They said that the authorities should expedite the process of renovation of all the six power stations soon.
