Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu will celebrate his 64th birthday on Saturday as the culmination of his 2,750-km-long padayatra is just a week away.

Mr. Naidu will take a break after a public meeting at the grounds of the engineering college of Andhra University near Gajuwaka in Visakhapatnam district. The party has made elaborate arrangements to mobilise a huge crowd and has even constructed a 100 ft. pylon to mark the occasion.

He will focus on the annual ‘Mahanadu’ of the party next month and has planned to take up a bus yatra in June to cover the remaining areas of the State well ahead of elections next year.

However, Mr. Naidu will have a tough time chalking out his tour in Hyderabad and surrounding areas due to traffic problems. They account for 33 Assembly constituencies.

Party sources say he has made over a hundred promises to various sections of people while addressing 750 public meetings.

There were also party declarations and assurances on local issues for each district such as the completion of Pranahita – Chevella for Adilabad, Polavaram for West Godavari and Information Technology hub for Kakinada – Rajahmundry.

The policy decisions that he proposed to implement at the State-level included waiver of crop loans, nine-hour uninterrupted power supply for the farm sector and free education from KG to PG for poor families.

Special Correspondent adds from Narsipatnam: A summer shower greeted Mr. Naidu on his completion of 200 days of yatra here on Friday.

He resumed his walk from Emanuel Educational College at Tamaram and addressed a roadside meeting at Racahapalli Junction, one km away, where he cut a cake to mark the occasion.

“No one has so far completed such a difficult task. I have taken it up to understand your problems and extend my support in solving them,” he said.
