Municipal employees as also students staged novel stir even as electricity employees geared themselves for indefinite strike from midnight of Wednesday in support of their demand for united Andhra Pradesh.

The striking electricity employees led by its District convenor K.Haribabu surrendered their mobile SIM cards to the Superintendening Engineer. Municipal employees led by its Administrative officer Munjula Kumari donning the role of gods and goddesses came in a colourful procession to impress upon the Centre to reverse its decision to bifurcate the state.

Students led by Samaikyandhra Students Front convenor P.Nagaraj, knelt down and studied in front of the statue of Constitution architect B.R.Ambedkar to further the cause of Samaikyandhra.

Shouting ''Jai Jai Samaikyandhra'', striking RTC employees took a big idol of Lord Ganesha for immersion, while advocates observed relay-fast.

A 48-hour bandh begun in Chirala on a call given by the Samaikyandhra protagonists. Shops and business establishments remained closed as integrationists went round the town in a huge procession to enforce the bandh call. Private ITC employees also joined the protest.

In Yerragondapalem, women teachers began relay hunger strike. Similar protests were organised in Parchur, Martur, Markapur, Kanigiri, Kandukur and Singarayakonda.
