The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has got administrative sanction from the government for constructing a swimming pool in the Brahmananda Reddy (BR) stadium at an estimated cost of Rs. 3 crore.
It is going to be the second swimming pool in the city after the existing one at Ravindra Nagar.
The new swimming pool will be constructed in an area of 1,200 square metres for organising summer camps and encouraging youth to take to swimming as an exercise and also as a sporting event.
Guntur East MLA Sk. Mastan Vali wanted the swimming pool to be constructed, and it was immediately endorsed by GMC Special Officer and district Collector S. Suresh Kumar.
The GMC has been permitted to construct the swimming pool by utilising Rs.1.25 crore available under the Building Penalisation Scheme and Rs.1.75 crore from the general account.
The technical clearances are to be obtained from the Engineering-in-Chief of the Public Health Department, Hyderabad.
Once the requisite permissions are in place, construction of the facility will start and meet global standards on completion.
