Information and Public Relations Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said the Cabinet also approved a Fibre Optic Grid Policy which seeks to provide 10-120 mbps broadband connectivity to every household in the state and 1 to 10 gbps connectivity to all educational institutions from the school to PG level. He said connectivity would be provided to six lakh households by 2017 and 23 lakh households by 2022.He said the cost of the fibre grid project is estimated to be Rs. 4,700 crore. The Centre would provide Rs.3,790 crore while the rest would be borne by the State Government. Under track-1, 30,700 km would be covered at a cost of Rs.200 crore. Another 6.500 km would be covered under track-2.
He reiterated that as part of the debt relief being provided to 8, 31,399 DWCRA self-help groups, an amount of Rs. 3,528 crore would be released as the first instalment from June 3 to 7. He said the government would also create facilities to ensure that each member would generate income of Rs.15,000 to Rs.20,000 per month.
