No room for suspicion on Polavaram: BJP

‘All promises made at the time of bifurcation will be fulfilled’

December 05, 2017 11:28 pm | Updated 11:28 pm IST - KAKINADA

Making it clear that the Central government was keen on completing the Polavaram irrigation project, BJP national general secretary P. Muralidhar Rao on Tuesday said an unnecessary controversy was being created because of some communication gap.

“A clerical mistake seems to be the reason behind this controversy. Unfortunately, some leaders are speaking badly about the project without having basic knowledge about the funding procedure,” he said while addressing the booth-level party workers’ meeting here.

Party workers from the Kakinada parliamentary constituency turned up in large numbers for the meeting.

Mr. Rao assured that the BJP’s winning spree would be continued in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh too.

“The party will be strengthened further in Andhra Pradesh. Not just the Polavaram, but the Central government will take up all the other projects promised to the State at the time of bifurcation,” he said, adding there was no need for any doubt with regard to fulfilling the poll promises.

Taking potshots at the Congress for celebrating the swearing in of Rahul Gandhi as its next president ahead of the poll results of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Rao said the Congress leaders were aware of the outcome in the two States.

President of the party’s State unit K. Hari Babu said efforts were on to strengthen the party at the grassroots level, and exuded confidence that the good work done by the Modi government would help the party grow in the days to come in the State.

MLCs P.N.V. Madhav and Somu Veerraju were among those present.
