‘No question of Hyderabad as UT’

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has made it clear that it would oppose “tooth and nail” any proposal by the Centre to declare Hyderabad as a Union Territory.

Talking to The Hindu here on Wednesday, K.T. Rama Rao, TRS MLA from Sircilla and the son of party president K. Chandrasekhara Rao, said: “ The resources of Hyderabad are part and parcel of Telangana.” The proposal, if true, would undermine the Telangana State, he said, terming the proposal an example of “retrogressive thinking.”

How could TRS accept vibrant city like Hyderabad as a UT, he wondered.Meanwhile, informed sources in the TRS denied that the Centre’s move was just to make the party fall in line for a merger with the Congress as there were reports that KCR now had lost interest in the merger.
