Education scheme
Earlier, inaugurating the education aid scheme being floated by the association, Mr. Antony said that service, non-governmental, and religious organisations should go beyond their own organisational interests and show more commitment to social causes if they wanted to gain respect and recognition from the public. Increasing cost of health care and environmental degradation were two important areas where all politicians and service organisations should pay more attention to, He said. Rising medical expenses, health issues caused by increasing pollution and pesticide-ridden food, and environmental issues were affecting more and more people, he said.
Mr. Antony said government employees should display more commitment towards society and called upon the association to extend its social work to new areas.
He distributed educational aid sponsored by the association, ranging from Rs.20,000 to Rs.1.2 lakh, to 41 indigent students doing higher education, including professional courses. He expressed happiness over his participation, after 10 years, at a function organised by the association.
