The Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy has ruled out allocation of Constituency Development Fund to legislators this year citing financial difficulties.
Responding to appeals of several MLCs in the Council for allotting the fund to them along with MLAs on Tuesday, he said that it was not possible this year for legislators from both the Houses. He, however, promised to consider the demand in future when the issue was raised during a discussion on privileges and protocol of MLCs.
The Opposition members also sought the fund soon after the Question Hour in the Assembly even as the Speaker, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy announced that a short discussion on ‘Inter- state River Water Disputes’ would be taken up. With the members insisting for a response from the Government, the Speaker adjourned the House for tea-break.
When the House re-assembled, Finance Minister K. Rosaiah said the Government was not in a position to accept their demand and assured to consider it when the situation improved. He said that members from all parties were seeking the fund and said that he could not make any commitment straightaway.
