Nine persons of two families belonging to Sankarampet in Medak district on a pilgrimage to Tirumala were killed when their car collided with a lorry near Kukkaladoddi in Railway Kodur constituency, bordering Kadapa and Chittoor districts on Tuesday.
A 11-year-boy Devarasetty Shreshta was the lone survivor of the two families and he was rushed to Ruia hospital at Tirupati with injuries. Papisetty Ramulu (60), his wife Yasoda (50), son Balakrishna (30), daughter-in-law Chandrika (28) and grandson Harish (4), Ramulu’s brother-in-law Davarasetti Lakshmi Narasimhulu (40), his wife Jyothi (30) and son Karthik (4) and car driver Santosh Kumar died instantly, police said.
Railway Kodur circle inspector Ramakanth and Obulapuram sub-inspector Subba Rao handed over gold ornaments worth of about Rs. 10 lakhs to the relatives of the deceased. They shifted the bodies to Rajampet Government hospital for post-mortem. The driver of the lorry coming from Chennai to Railway Kodur fled after the mishap.
