NHRC team to visit SAI centre

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will undertake a two-day visit to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel in Alappuzha on Thursday to inquire into complaints relating to the suicide of a female trainee on May 7.

Describing the incident ‘unfortunate,’ the NHRC has asked the Chief Secretary; Inspector General of Police, Ernakulam Range; Superintendent of Police, Alappuzha; and the Secretary, Sports Authority of India, New Delhi, to send reports on the incident to it within two weeks.

A team led by the NHRC acting chairperson would visit Alappuzha on Thursday and Friday for an on-the-spot inquiry.
