The APNGOs Nellore district unit organised protest demonstrations at various Central government offices here on Monday as part of their agitation against the ongoing bifurcation process.
APNGOs Nellore president P. Ravindra Babu, protesting in front of the BSNL office, said the employees, students and youth were in no mood to relent until the government gave up its decision to divide the State. He demanded that the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, 2013 be rejected in Parliament.
Mr. Ravindra Babu said the Seemandhra Union Ministers and MPs should make sure that the Telangana Bill was not passed in the Parliament as it would badly affect the interests of the people here. He added that the people would turn against the leaders if they failed to stop the bifurcation process.
The NGOs, who took part in the protest, raised slogans against the ruling Congress leaders for going ahead with the bifurcation without considering its consequences.
Samaikyandhra Students’ JAC also led a protest demonstration in the city. They urged all the leaders to rise above their affiliations and ensure continuation of the State as a single entity.
Meanwhile, BJP State executive member Midatala Ramesh advised his party leaders in Telangana to not make objectionable comments against the party senior leader M. Venkaiah Naidu. “Mr. Naidu was just talking about Seemandhra people’s concerns. We will not bear if anybody makes undue comments,” he added.
BJP district president P. Surender Reddy clarified that the party in fact favoured the formation of smaller States, but that does not mean that the party would be a silent spectator if injustice was done to Seemandhra people.
Integrationists to observe bandh todayStaff Reporter adds: Activists of Samaikhya Parirakshana Vedika staged demonstrations in front of Central government offices here, including the BSNL office, protesting the Centre’s move to bifurcate the State. As part of the ongoing stir, the Vedika, along with forums championing the cause of Samaikyandhra, will observe bandh in Chittoor on Tuesday, followed by road blockades on Wednesday.
In Punganur, traffic came to a halt on roads leading to Madanapalle, Tirupati, Bangalore and Chennai, when members of the JAC led by its chairman Varada Reddy held a protest sitting on knees.
