As part of reforms under the Centrally sponsored Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), the Andhra Pradesh Commissionerate of Collegiate Education is gearing up to design textbooks with experts for new restructured market-oriented courses.
The Commissionerate authorities organised a series of faculty development programmes roping in subject experts from various fields. Designing of new textbooks is the next phase wherein subject experts will be roped in for each course to standardise the content and courses.
There is also a plan to develop e-books with the support of teachers who are equipped with Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills.
The Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE) may approach the Telugu Academy asking it to take up the task of providing textbooks for all the 25 new restructured courses.
The project then can be submitted to the National Mission on Education through the Information and Communication and Technology (NMEICT) for funding and other resources. The NMEICT is an ambitious project aimed at providing quality educational content to learners across the country.
The trained faculty will now be sent to industries or laboratories for exposure visits and hands-on training in a phased manner. Students pursuing these courses will be undergoing internship at the respective industry besides short-term training.
Collaborations
All institutions will be asked to opt for collaborations with the industry for taking these courses to a logical end by providing the learners gainful employment. A series of training sessions for faculty drawn from various disciplines was organised by the Commissionerate at the Human Resource Development Institute at Bapatla.
Through these training sessions, the participants were given insight into the restructured ‘market-oriented’ courses that are expected to evoke positive response. Experts were roped in to impart the training and the sessions were recorded and uploaded into the Academic Pedagogical Evaluation Portal of the Collegiate Education. The idea is to make these lessons available to all students in their mobile phones that could be accessed any time.
The training sessions covered a wide range of subjects such as actuarial science, applied statistics, econometrics, renewable energy management, multi-media, Internet of Things, cloud computing and web-enabled technologies to organic farming, seed technology and sericulture management.
The trainees were given insights into key aspects relating to tourism and travel management, history writing, journalism and mass communication and English for digital age.
