Nellore to have ‘Necklace road’ soon

Road to be laid surrounding Swarnala Cheruvu, like the one abutting Hussainsagar. Necklace road development assumed significance in the light of the fact that Swarnala Cheruvu, where the road is being developed, has been seen as a popular tourist destination.

The State government has initiated measures to go ahead with its plan of developing tourist destinations in Nellore, especially a ‘Necklace road’ along the bank of the Swarnala Cheruvu, on the lines of the one surrounding the Hussainsagar in Hyderabad.

According to the district officials, proposals are being prepared to develop the ‘Necklace road’ where the tourists, visitors and people can frequent to relax.

Site inspection

A team of officials of Andhra Pradesh Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APUFDC), along with its Managing Director Madhusudhan Reddy and District Collector M. Janaki visited the areas identified for the project on Thursday.

A decision has been taken that the ‘Necklace road’ will not be developed along the water spread area of Swarnala Cheruvu. The part of the adjoining land coming under the limits of the Nellore Municipal Corporation will be used for this project.

Municipal Commissioner K.V.N. Chakradhara Babu, who was also the part of the team, provided details about the scope for development of the road. The team visited Irugalamma temple, Summer Storage Tank, Kondlapudi and other habitations abutting the water body.

Necklace road development assumed significance in the light of the fact that Swarnala Cheruvu, where the road is being developed, has been seen as a popular tourist destination. Scores of visitors throng the place throng the place to participate in Rottela Panduga festival and offer prayers at Bara Shahid Dargah located on the bunds of the cheruvu. The officials said that that they were expecting a good patronage to this project once all the amenities were in place after completion of the project.
